Day 3 Two-Strand Twist Out
Last night I re-twisted my dry hair. I used the same products: Healthy Hair Butter, Tui Leave-In Conditioner, and Loc Butter.
Two-Strand Twists: a protective style meant to hold in moisture, soften up and protect the hair.
This morning I twisted out my front twists because I didn’t have the time to twist out my whole head. Also I plan on going out tonight and I want to keep my hair...

Two-Strand twist out
So I woke up this morning and took out my twists….
What I did to get this look:
I used Carol’s Daughter Tui Leave-In Conditioner.
STEPS: Sprayed my entire head with the leave-in conditioner until my twists were damp (not wet). Then I gently twisted out all my twists all over my head.
Results are below….this is a good way to not have to co-wash my hair as frequently but it...

Two strand twists....
Tonight I twisted my hair all over. Below is a photo of my end result. Please pardon the product that is still in my hair…I can be a little heavy handed :). My last post was of a two-strand twist out which is pretty much what my hair will look like tomorrow morning when I take out my twists.
How I got this look:
I used 3 products: Carol’s Daughter Tui Leave-In Conditioner,...

Rockin' a TWA
My coworker rocks a TWA and needed a little assistance sprucing it up and helping her curls pop more. Many women become discouraged when they don’t have bouncy curls but that does not mean all is lost. So I used some products from Carol’s Daughter on her and gave her hair some definition.

My favorite Hair Products (Pt. 1)
OK, so here it is…my favorite hair products! I feel this is very long over due….but here goes! (Please keep in mind this hair regime and products work for me. I am posting this as a means of assistance. Because what works for me may not work for everyone. You have to find your own regime and hopefully my regime can give you some ideas).
I will start with Shampoo and Conditioner...

One year and six months....natural
The first ten months of me being natural I cut my hair often. I did not want it to grow. I was self-conscious and unsure of how I was going to maintain this hair that I was so unfamiliar with. Short hair just seemed like the easy way to go.
One of my close friends went natural the same time I did and her hair was growing, her curls were “popping”….she looked beautiful....

From Natural hair woman to another →
I have been trained since childhood by close friends, family and classmates how black nappy hair is bad hair. I am ashamed to say that I believed that until I was old enough to form my own opinion. Now, everyone is entitled to their own opinion no matter how ill-informed it may be. I read the above article just a few minutes ago, and I was shocked. The author, Kamilah Blackston, is a natural...

It's gonna cost ya!
Before going natural I did not know that it is expensive. I think there is a bit of a misconception about women who have natural hair. I have heard people say that women either have natural hair or want natural hair because they are cheap. Granted, this may be nothing more than hearsay but I must set the record straight - natural hair is not a cheap keep.
I have nothing but good things to say...

Is going natural 'in' now?
March of last year I closed my eyes and did the Big Chop - BC. For those who do not know what a BC is, it’s what we in the natural hair world call the moment when all of the relaxed hair gets cut off (bye, bye). I will be honest - I did not transition, I did not mull over the decision for a long period of time, nor did I talk it over with family and friends. I did my research, the...

My new 'natural' direction
I had an interview about two weeks ago with Carol’s Daughter for an in-store position. My resume, of course, read that I had a degree in Journalism yet I was applying for a potentially part-time sales associate position.
So she posed a question to me: What do you plan on doing with your degree?
My immediate thought, not stay in retail forever. Of course, to get a job- a real job-...

Happy New Year
My apologies, it’s been a while since my last blog. Fortunately and unfortunately towards the end of 2010 I was swamped with work pretty much everyday as my part-time job at the GAP started feeling more and more like a full-time job. Not to mention the ultimate tragedy occurred; my pink Sony Viao died. I was left without a laptop and only the family desktop to use. Finally, I was and I still...

Saving Black Friday money
Tis the season to go shopping! The day after Thanksgiving is infamously named
“Black Friday.” It is known as the day when department stores all over the U.S. slash prices and sell their merchandise for dirt cheap! So that 58 inch flat screen HDTV you have been eye-balling- black friday is the day to make that purchase.
Personally, I have been putting in the extra hours so that I can...

Vote
This morning I voted. My mom and I woke up, got out of bed, got dressed, ate breakfast and left the house to go vote. It was simple. The line was non-existent in my voting precinct. I touched the screen that marked an “X” in the box of the candidate I felt deserved to serve myself and other citizens of my county and state.
While I stood at the poll selecting my choices it hit me...

Mariah Carey confirms pregnancy →
It has finally been confirmed that Mariah Carey is pregnant. Thursday (earlier today) morning Carey laid the rumors to rest on the Today show. Needless to say Carey and hubby Nick Cannon are ecstatic about the baby on board.
After months of eluding to parenthood and baby talk by both Cannon and Carey the couple is now officially going public with the pregnancy. Carey, 41, and Cannon, 30, gave a...

Nike released Lebron’s new commercial Monday. It is Lebron addressing the backlash he received this past summer upon announcing his move to the Miami Heat from the Cleveland Cavaliers on ESPN. The 92 second ad is a montage of various scenarios. For those few seconds the viewer gets a chance to see what it is like to walk in Lebron’s shoes.
In each scenario Lebron asks the viewers,...

Cholera outbreak kills 1,555 people and led to 40,000 cases in Nigeria. The cases seem to be contained for the most part within Nigerian borders. Although, there have been cases reported in neighboring country Cameroon.
This year the outbreak has even larger proportions than in the past. It is being reported as the worst Cholera outbreak in years. The number of cases is three times higher than...

Top 10 Scary Movies for a movie night!
So tis the season not to be jolly (not yet) but to be scared-to be horrified. This means that only the best of horror flicks need to be obtained immediately. It is time for a fear fest night with the girls, boys, your family or with the significant other.
A movie night, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the only holiday that makes fear OK. Don’t forget to create the mood by...

Kanye blasts LA Times on Twitter
Via Twitter Kanye West “goes in” on an LA Times writer who misidentified the title of his new album. The writer, Chris Lee, was writing a review on West’s new film, “Runaway” that recently debuted and will premiere Saturday on both BET and MTV.
Lee mentions West’s new album in this review as “My Dark Twisted Fantasy” instead of its proper title of...

Lunacy Black Market = Good Cheap Eats
Good cheap food, that’s Lunacy Black Market. People say you get what you pay for; which is usually meant in an arrogantly snobby way to talk badly about things you do not have to pay an arm and a leg for. About a week ago my best friend and I went out to eat. We were looking for good food. We did not want fast food. Most importantly, we did not want to spend money we did not have.
Then I...

Here’s Willow Smith’s music video for “Whip My Hair”, just as I promised. Enjoy! (Just when I thought I was going to go to bed) Fortunately enough I ran across this clip via Google magic. I just could not close my eyes for the night without spreading the word further about this video premiere. It’s a breath of fresh and creative air.
I think this is only the...

Willow Smith Whip My Hair video premiere click... →
Willow Smith is bull-dozing her way into the music industry! I first heard her single “Whip My Hair” a little over a month ago. From that moment I have been patiently anticipating her video premiere. Well, the wait is over.
Her music video is premiering tonight at 7 p.m. on both Vevo and the BET show 106 and Park. I personally just finished watching the video, and I am beyond...

Ri Ri has a new video for her first single, “Only Girl (In the World)” from her upcoming album “Loud.” When I first saw her flaming red hair on the MTV 2010 VMAs it took some getting used to. Well, that and I had to adjust the color on my television a bit. After watching this new video it hit me that this hair color is here to stay. It is appropriately loud like the title...

T.I., Glee, Miners....news
I am still getting the hang of blogging and trying to find my niche as well. Here are some news developments that caught my eye on the net:
T.I. is going back to jail. Surprised? Not at all. Disappointed? Definitely. My first thought: Didn’t he just get out of jail? Geez…maybe this time will be the last time. If not, then hopefully this 11 mth vacay will hopefully be a wake up call...
Dream as if you’ll live forever; live as if you’ll die today.
– James Dean.
This tweet came across my timeline on Twitter, and it struck a chord. I could not think of a better mantra to live by. Well, maybe one: Carpe Diem :).
Regardless, I believe it is important to keep phrases like this in mind. Especially in these times of economic distress. Dreams are...
