From My Brown Eyes

Uh oh, Miley Cyrus has done it again. She has successfully upset the Parents Television Council-PTC-with her new video. The video is for her new European released single, “Who Owns My Heart.” It is being deemed by the PTC as too sexy for a 17-year-old girl.

According to MTV’s Clutch Blog: “It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a sexualized video like this one,” Tim Winter, the group’s president, told TMZ. “Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fan base so rapidly.” 

I do agree with Winter in the respect that it seems Miley is eagerly trying to distance herself from the fans (pre-teenage girls) who created her and her fame. Although there is where my agreement ends. Winter and the rest of the PTC fail to realize that Miley is a teenage girl who is coming into womanhood. She is growing up and discovering that she can be sexy. Personally I see nothing wrong with self-discovery. I believe it is a woman’s right to want to look and feel sexy so long as she is not straddling the lines of slutty. 

In this video, Miley is nowhere near sexy in my opinion. She is dressed the way tons of other teen girls her age dress when they go out to a club or party. Her dancing is similar to that of other young people her age. Unfortunately, it seems that the PTC is stuck in a time-warp. So my remedy for all the nay-sayers who think she is too sexy: go to a nightclub on a Saturday night.
