From My Brown Eyes

My new ‘natural’ direction

I had an interview about two weeks ago with Carol’s Daughter for an in-store position. My resume, of course, read that I had a degree in Journalism yet I was applying for a potentially part-time sales associate position.

So she posed a question to me: What do you plan on doing with your degree?

My immediate thought, not stay in retail forever. Of course, to get a job- a real job- in my field of journalism feels impossible most days. Regardless, I gave the answer she wanted to hear: I want to a job with a company I can potentially grow with and I hope I can start with your company…blah, blah, blah. Geez, I went to college and got the degree only ta-da: no job. I digress, the topic of being college educated with a degree and no job is for another day.

During this interview she presented me with an idea I hadn’t thought of: why not tie in my interest in writing with natural hair. You see I have natural hair. I cut all my long brown hair off back in March of last year. I have not looked back since. I am committed to my napp-tural hair. I love it! I feel so liberated now that my chemically damaged tresses are gone. Anyways, she caught on to my passion about hair and my writing and said, “hey, why not do a natural hair blog?”

Ah, why didn’t I think of that?!? I have been struggling to find my voice and what I should blog about since I started “From My Brown Eyes.” Now, after one sit down interview for a job (that I really hope I get) I get directed to…here. Everything happens for a reason. So from here on out, this is a natural hair blog. Let the revamping begin! The universe truly does provide inspiration everywhere- so my eyes and ears are always open. I am really excited about this: I have a purpose now. Welcome!
